da dobrowin: According to The72, Glasgow Rangers have joined the race to sign Jerry Yates.
Gers eye move for Yates
da blaze casino: Yates, who currently plays for Blackpool in League One, has been in impressive form for the Seasiders so far this campaign, scoring 20 goals in 44 games (Transfermarkt). Already this season, he has attracted interest from Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest (The Sun).
Now, the Gers are believed to be keen on the 24-year-old, with a ‘source close to The72’ revealing interest from Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and co.
Gamble
Yates was previously valued at £2m earlier this campaign, and that fee is likely to have gone up given he has continued to find the back of the net on a regular basis. 13 goals in 31 matches for Swindon last term in League Two suggest the forward is not just one a one-season wonder, either – he has 46 strikes throughout his career to date. Former Blackpool boss Richie Wellens called him “fantastic” earlier this season due to his red-hot form in front of goal (Quest via The Blackpool Gazette).
Having said that, goals in the third and fourth tier of English football do not mean he will succeed in Scotland. While the Premiership may not be the most competitive league in Europe, the demands at the 55-time Scottish champions are far higher than anything Yates will have experienced before. Not only that, he could also be competing in the Champions League next season – unfortunately, he is unlikely to be anywhere near prepared for that level.
For £2m+, Gerrard and Wilson are likely to be able to find a better option elsewhere.
In other news, Paddy Kenny urges the Gers to consider the sale of this man.
