da betobet: There is good news coming from Portugal for the powers that be at Everton and Newcastle as reports from A Bola (via Sport Witness) claim that Sporting Lisbon are ready to discuss a deal for sought after defender Ruben Semedo.
What’s the word?
da pinup bet: The reports from Portugal claim that Sporting have softened their stance on letting the 23-year-old go this summer, with both Southampton and West Brom also chasing a deal as well as Everton and Newcastle.
With the money on offer in the Premier League it seems unlikely that the Portuguese international would turn down a move, especially having been on the bench in the latter stages of the season.
The centre-half supposedly has a €45m release clause in his current deal, however, with the club keen to cash in on their man it is believed that they will accept a bid far lower than that this summer.
Semedo’s market value is £5.95m, according to transfermarkt.com.
Where will he end up?
A lot will hang on managerial changes over the next few months. It doesn’t seem as if West Brom will be making any changes soon, however, you would assume the likes of Everton and Southampton are more attractive offers for a prospective signing.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he will be staying on after talks with owner Mike Ashley and, whilst playing at St. James’ Park under a former Champions League winning manager, once again the Toffees and the Saints may seem more interesting, with the duo more likely to be involved in European football in the next few seasons.
That leaves former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman and his successor Claude Puel to pick from. As a defender Semedo may be more inclined to go with Barcelona hero Koeman as his mentor, however, after his antics last summer there are still no assurances he will be staying put.
Whilst you cannot be 100% certain the Dutchman will be at Goodison Park next season, he is more likely to be in his post than Puel in August, making Merseyside the most likely destination.
