da poker: Tottenham Hotspur have entered the chance to sign Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr and will battle North London rivals Arsenal for his signature, according to CalcioMercato.
What’s the word?
Mauricio Pochettino did not sign a single player during the summer transfer window, but he is surely unlikely to adopt a similar stance in January as he seeks additions to help strengthen the Lilywhites’ push for a top-four finish.
Tottenham face competition from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal for a Champions League spot this season and their rivalry with the latter could be set to be transferred into the market, as both North London sides are attributed with interest in the same player.
CalcioMercato states that Spurs have entered the running for Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr, while follows a claim from The Mirror earlier this week that stated Arsenal are expressing an interest in the Senegal World Cup ace.
Is he needed?
Beating your arch-rivals to a top-class signing in the transfer market always provides reasons for supporters to be excited, but Tottenham should not be influenced by Arsenal’s interest in Ismaila Sarr, who has already scored an early goal-of-the-season contender, and should pull out of the running.

Spurs already boast the talents of Son Heung-Min, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura, all of whom have already proven their worth so far this season and will continue to do so – which means there is no place for 20-year-old Sarr in their side.
On top of this, Rennes are likely to command significantly more in the market than his value of £12.6m from Transfermarkt and therefore it would be a costly addition for Pochettino, who should be focusing his attention on boosting other areas of the squad.
